POV 2023 Chevy Corvette (C8 Stingray) City + Freeway Driving Overall Impression by Bruce Lee - How does the C8 Stingray drive? My friend Mark Lee has bought the car so he wanted me to accompany him and do some test driving on his car on his trip from LA to Escondido (Quality Chevrolet where he bought this car) and back (I didn't drive all the time but we changed the driver's seat back and forth). I did some mild-to-extensive driving and overall it was pretty impressive for this mild 495-HP car. I didn't expect too much from it being the lowest model from the C8 chassis but it was quite impressive. Being a mid-engine, relatively lightweight (compared to heavy-weighted cars these days) and relatively nice LT2 engine (with the Performance Exhaust it nets 495HP@6450 and 470 LB-FT@5150 at the crank with the forged crankshaft and rods and 11.5:1 Compression-Ratio Pistons) the overall driving impression was really nice. It handled just like any other mid-engined exotics did. The engine, although I wish it had about 100HP more, was quite adequate for its price range with well balanced low-mid-high RPM torque delivery. The 8-Speed Dual Clutch was pretty impressive too, with close-ratio spacing, quick shifts and intuitive gear-changes on auto-mode. Braking was OK, too, without any fades even at high speeds. After driving this car, I was very impressed that made me wanting to buy it. I wouldn't buy it, still, because it's not a stick shift. I would buy the E-Ray (after I saw the Hagerty review that says it is as fast as the Z06 on 1/4 Mile drag) and the Z06 (although it now became impossible for anyone to buy it any more because of the extreme short supply) even though they are automatic only. Chevy should have made at least the lowest of the group, the regular Stingray, available in 6-Speed Manual for true enthusiasts like myself. Anyways, my overall score is a solid A Minus for this car!
